Reiki Master / Teacher in the making!

Hello everyone!

I know it's been a while since my last post, but there's been a lot of exciting things going on! Firstly, I would like to let everyone know, I am in the process of evolving myself further and am firmly on the road to becoming a Reiki Master/ Teacher.

Yes! It's true! I can't tell you how excited I am about this, as, not only will I be continuing to give reiki treatments, but I will also be in the position to hold my own groups and teach others to use Reiki to heal themselves, friends and family and most importnantly, develop their own spirituality. I will keep everyone posted when this will be but I am aiming for the end of May 2013.

Alternatively, make a tea by steeping one teaspoon of the dried flowers in one cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. Sip slowly throughout the day. Sweeten if desired.

Food triggers

Avoid specific foods that are known triggers for migraine headaches. Chocolate, alcohol, caffeinated beverages, sodas, refined sugars, gluten-containing grains, aged cheeses and peanuts are some of the more common food culprits that may be causing your migraines.

Reintroduce potential problem foods one at a time over a period of weeks to find out which one is causing the problem. Taking these foods out of your diet may feel like a sacrifice; however, if your headaches are eliminated or greatly reduced, then it may be worth it.

Tryptophan

Add tryptophan to your diet either in supplement form or by eating foods like turkey, which is high in tryptophan. This amino acid stimulates the production of the brain transmitter dopamine, which in turn contributes to the release of serotonin. Migraine relief often results from the flow of serotonin, which elevates moods, relieves anxiety and tension, and relaxes tiny muscles around capillaries in the scalp.

Ginger, peppermint, cayenne

Use common household herbs like ginger, peppermint and cayenne pepper to treat a migraine. Ginger or peppermint can also be helpful in reducing the nausea accompanying many migraine headaches. Ginger thins the blood, so it should be used with care if you're taking blood-thinning medications.

To make an herbal tea, mix the three herbs together. Place a pinch of cayenne pepper, a one inch piece of fresh ginger and a teaspoonful of dried peppermint in two cups boiling water and allow to steep for 15 minutes. Remove the herbs and sweeten with honey to taste. Natural pain relievers in each of these herbs can help ease away your migraine headache.

Butterbur

The herb butterbur was found to reduce the intensity of migraine headaches by lessening inflammation and stabilizing blood flow to the brain. It acts as a beta-blocker, helping to control blood pressure and preventing spasms in the capillaries. Only use butterbur that is labeled PA-Free, ensuring that any harmful toxins have been thoroughly removed from the supplement, making the herb safe for use. Butterbur is also known to relieve numerous allergies, especially those that may contribute to causing headaches.

Prescription Drugs cause nutrient depletion

Many people do not realize that the medications they take on a daily basis can negatively affect the amount of nutrients stored in the body. Numerous drugs actually deplete specific vitamins and minerals, causing a whole host of additional problems. Being aware of what is being depleted by the prescription you are taking can help you to choose what to supplement with. Vitamins and minerals are vital for the everyday cellular processes in your body; inadequate amounts may lead to decreased immunity, digestive issues and much more.

What you are losing

Below are a few examples of some commonly prescribed drugs and a list of the nutrients that are automatically depleted.

Anti-inflammatory drugs deplete: Calcium, potassium, zinc, iron, Vitamins B6, C, D, K, folic acid, chromium, glutathione, Vitamins B6, C, D, and K

NSAIDs: Folic acid, melatonin

What's the big deal?

Zinc is a master mineral necessary in hundreds of enzymatic reactions throughout the body and plays a vital role in immune function. Zinc is not stored in the body and must be ingested through diet or supplementation. If you are chronically sick, you may be deficient in zinc due to poor dietary intake or from drug induced nutrient depletion. A good way to see if you are zinc deficient is to buy organic zinc lozenges, hold in your mouth, if it tastes sweet, you are deficient, if it tastes bitter, you are not. Once the sweetness wears off and there is no taste/bitter, discard the lozenge.

Coenzyme Q10 is a very powerful vitamin and antioxidant, also known as ubiquinone ("found everywhere"), because it is found in every cell of the body. Energy and ATP production are the main functions of this important vitamin. Research has shown that people with heart failure have lower levels of coenzyme Q10 and the vitamin may help to increase the energy production, pumping action and strength of the heart muscle.

Folic acid, also known as Vitamin B9, helps convert food into energy, assist with proper brain function, DNA/RNA synthesis, red blood cell production and iron functions. This vitamin may also aid in the prevention of heart disease, although further studies are still needed. Folic acid deficiencies may occur due to drug induced nutrient depletion, Celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and alcoholism, just to name a few.

These are only a few examples of very important vitamins and minerals that are automatically depleted when taking certain medications. Zinc, coenzyme Q10, folic acid and the other vitamins and minerals are essential for good health and the processes that go on inside of our bodies on a constant basis.

Take control of your health

What's important to remember is that no drug is 100% percent safe and side effect free. Researching any drug your doctor prescribes is vital to being your own health advocate. Question your health care provider as to why the medication that he/she is prescribing is necessary. A list of side effects is now given with each prescription at the pharmacy; a list of vitamins and minerals that are automatically depleted as a direct result of the medication should also be supplied to every patient, with every prescription. You only have one body and should do everything in your power to protect it and keep it functioning optimally.

Dr. Mikao Usui, the first Grand Master of Reiki, developed the five precepts shortly after he decided to leave the Beggars Quarter of Kyoto. He went there to start sharing Reiki, because he felt they needed it more than others in the world. It was at this time that he became aware of some important aspects of human nature.

The Five Reiki Precepts Emanate from us naturally

The five precepts that Usui taught emanate naturally from a person in his or her proper flow. At the same time, trying to live the precepts also helps put a person in that flow, because, what you think is truly what you are.

Asking for Healing

Usui had begun his healings with the hope of giving the beggars the opportunity to become reintegrated with society. When several of them tried and failed at shouldering the responsibilities of everyday life, he began to realize the importance of a person’s participation in their own life healing process. A person needed to want and then ask for a change/healing to make a real difference in their life. If the help of others was involved, there would also, be an exchange of energy for their time. By just giving away healings, he had further impressed the beggar pattern in many of them. He saw that people need to give back for what they receive, in order to maintain a sense of balance and not to have the feeling of indebtedness. It is not the job of any healer to try and help where healing is not wanted.
Learning Non-attachment
Dr. Usui also learned the importance of non-attachment to the results of his healings. It is possible that some of the beggars needed to live out their lives in the Beggars Quarter in order to learn certain lessons. Who are we to judge this as right or wrong? The same applies to disease. Perhaps people create a disease on a subconscious level to enable them to learn certain lessons, or perhaps, even to die. To a gifted healer, such as Usui was, to try to then interfere with a premature healing might be a real transgression into a persons essential life process. It became very clear to Usui that it was not his job to use his incredible gift to heal the world, but indeed to show people how they might help themselves. It was at this time that he realized that people needed guidelines to help them grow in understanding, and to help them shoulder greater responsibility for their own life situations.

I came to see Maha primarily because I had been coughing for 3 months and, having tried countless over the counter remedies as well as an inhaler from my GP, nothing had worked and I was feeling very frustrated. Maha and I spoke for a while and we both came to the conclusion that because I had been through a highly stressful and difficult year, my cough may have been brought on by exhaustion and mild depression.

The Reiki session was extremely soothing. It lasted around an hour and all that was required was that I lay down on the Reiki table, close my eyes and relax whilst Maha's hands hovered over my body and healed me. It was so wonderful to think and do nothing for a change.

After Reiki I left feeling instantly better. I believe it was a combination of Maha's healing as well as me being open to it that cured my cough as well as my depression.
